   I paint the prairies, farmland, open spaces, and forests of my mid-western home, because they are quickly disappearing under asphalt and roof tops.

    A hundred year old white oak, a lone grove of ancient oak trees, an oak-hickory savannah; all are remnants of a vanishing terrain. They are breath-taking sights. and are among my favorite subjects.

    The bulldozer will level some of the gently rolling hills, dig man-made lakes, and permanently alter the land, so that familiar landmarks are wiped out, gone forever.  My paintings give these unique spaces a second life. Collectors of my work tell me they are not just purchasing a painting, but acquiring a window into the natural world.

    Many people who love landscape art look for a certain quality in the paintings they buy; a view to the outdoors. They want to see fields of grass waving in a breeze, a small hidden pond reflecting the trees growing on its shores, the cool shade of an oak-hickory woods beckoning them to rest a while. Maybe it's a winding lane that says, "Take a stroll and discover a secret destination".

   It's quite a thrill; having an art collector share my view and wish to own one of my landscapes. Then I know something I created has found a new home.
