   I paint the prairies, farmland, open spaces, and forests of my mid-western home, because they are quickly disappearing under asphalt and roof tops.

   So much of this work consists of rivers, ponds, lakes, marshes, fens, and streams. They are among my favorite subjects to paint and are sought by art collectors.

    The bulldozer will level some of the gently rolling hills and fill in natural lakes, ponds, and marshes. As a result, some water ways will be altered and disappear permanently.

    My paintings give these unique areas a second life. Collectors of my work tell me they are not just purchasing a painting, but acquiring a window into a vanishing world.

    Many people who love landscape art look for a certain quality in the paintings they buy; a view to the outdoors. They want to see a small hidden pond reflecting the color of the trees growing on its shores, a quiet river that beckons us to rest a while, or a grassy fen that says, "stand still and listen to the frogs singing".

    It's quite a thrill; having an art collector share my view and wish to own one of my landscapes. Then I know something I created has found a new home.
