LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTINGS
I paint the prairies, farmland, open spaces, and forests of my adopted mid-western home, because they are quickly disappearing under asphalt and roof tops.
A tall grass prairie, a golden field of ripening soy beans, two hundred acres of field corn, tasseled out and blowing in the wind were the recent past’s breath-taking sights.
The bulldozer will level some of the gently rolling hills, dig man-made lakes, and permanently alter the land, so that familiar landmarks are wiped out, gone forever.
My paintings give these beautiful spaces a second life. Collectors of my work tell me they are not just purchasing a painting, but acquiring a window into a vanishing world.
Many people who love landscape art look for this quality in the paintings they buy; a view to the outdoors, where fields of grasses wave in a breeze, a small hidden pond quietly reflects the color of the trees that grow on its shores, the cool shade of an oak-hickory woods beckons you to rest a while, or a winding lane invites you to take a stroll and discover a secret destination.
My landscape work also includes “sky” paintings; images of sunrises and sunsets, or cerulean blue skies filled with those huge white cumulus clouds. I paint yellow skies, lavender skies, pink skies, and red skies. I’ve seen them all in this glorious heartland where I live.
My greatest thrill is knowing an art collector shares my view and wishes to own one of my landscapes. Then I know one of my creations has found a new home.
