This small lake rests in the middle of an open field. It is ringed by cattails, and tall green prairie grasses, a contradiction to the fall colors in the distant tree line. Although the scene is bright and sunny, the season is late September. I liked the contrast of summer changing into autumn.

Flocks of Canada geese are rising into the sky, startled, perhaps, by the artist? I can hear American toads calling and a bullfrog or two. I’ve seen a Blue Heron and white egrets standing in the shallows. Dragon flies and honey bees fill the air with their buzz. I’ve just been inspected by a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, attracted by the red scrunchy that secures my pony tail. I must look like a curious, if huge, red flower. I can hear insects, birds, the wind blowing in the reeds and cattails. The field is teeming with life.

Let my painting transport you into a rich and magical Habitat.
